Iligan City - My Hometown

Iligan City

The city, widely described as the City of Majestic Waterfalls, lies in the Cagayan-Iligan corridor in the Northern Mindanao (Region 10) region of the Philippines. A highly urbanized city situated within the province of Lanao del Norte though the government is independent in  the province. It represents a lone district in the House of Congress.

  • South by the municipalities of Balo-I and Linamon of Lanao del Norte
  • North by the municipalities of Lugait, Manticao, and Opol of Misamis Oriental
  • East by Lanao del Sur and Bukidnon provinces 
  • West by Iligan Bay.

  • The city within the C type climate. Average annual temperature is 21.68° Celsius. Rain is evenly distributed throughout the year. No cold weather like winter.

  • Philippine Standard Time is eight hours ahead of Greenwich Meantime
Currency
  • Philippine peso 
  • Currency exchange: US dollar and other currencies are accepted by any banks or any authorized money changers
Religion
  • Christianity is predominant religion on the whole population
  • Catholics is the majority of the Christians 
  • Islam is widely and openly practice.
  • The city fiesta is held every September 29 in honor of the patron saint, Saint Michael
Business Hours
  • Government agencies and offices: 8 am to 5 pm (Mondays to Fridays); Sundays is a legal holiday.
  • Banks: 9 am to 4 pm (Mondays to Saturdays) - BDO open 'til 5:30 pm.
  • Business establishments: 9 am to 7 pm, Monday to Saturday (others are open on Sundays)
Language
  • Cebuano is widely spoken and understood among locals in the city. 
  • Regional language, Tagalog, and other languages from other cultural minorities and immigrants from other places, is also spoken here.
  • The English language is the medium of instruction in education.

Transportation

Travel by sea
  • Port of Iligan 
  • Passenger and cargo shipping lines sails to and from Manila, Cebu, Siquijor, Bohol, and other major ports in Mindanao.
  • The alternate route is from the nearby Port of Cagayan de Oro City and the Port of Ozamiz City.
Travel by air
  • Laguindingan International Airport in the Municipality of Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental is the nearest and operational airport. Philippine Airlines/PAL Express, Cebu Pacific, Tiger Asia, and Air Asia currently provides daily flights. Flights going to Manila is 1 hour and 20 minutes.
Travel by land            
  • Jeepneys, Taxi cabs, Pedicabs, Tartanillas (horse-driven carriage), and Motorcycles (Habal-habal) are available for city transport
  • City jeepneys regular fare PHP 7.00; PHP 5.50 for students/Senior Citizens and Persons with disabilities (PWD)
